New Paltz Times: Know your community

Coming to know, understand and participate in one’s community enriches small-town life in a way few things can. Each week, New Paltz Times covers this community with unique depth, shedding light on local government actions that affect your tax bills and quality of life, taking a look inside the schools to show how our children are being educated (and how the Huguenots are doing), spotlighting local businesses you might want to check out, and sitting down with the colorful personalities that make this town what it is.

Almanac Weekly: Plan your weekend

Subscribers also receive Almanac Weekly, our guide to Hudson Valley arts, entertainment and adventure. Each week, readers are given literally hundreds of ideas for weekend plans, none more than an hour away. There’s no better guide to area art, music, lectures, children’s activities and events, and like New Paltz Times, 100% of the stories are written by local writers who know the area well. It’s not just a collection of event listings: it’s a guided itinerary. (And more! There are weekly columns on food, astronomy and gardening, as well as regular features on local history and nature.)

For New Paltz readers, it’s the best of both worlds. New Paltz is our community, so we care deeply about our local institutions and neighbors. We are less concerned with the nitty-gritty of neighboring towns. But when it comes time to step out, we may want to leave the bounds of friendly New Paltz to take in a show in Kingston or Woodstock, or a festival in Rhinebeck or Saugerties. Almanac Weekly is the perfect guide.

Special Sections: explore your world

That’s not all. Subscribers also receive 14 special sections each year at no extra charge. There’s a special economy section each January that takes stock of the year to come (Hudson Valley Business Review: Looking Forward), two wedding sections (Celebrations of Love), three home sections (Home Hudson Valley), four health sections (Healthy Hudson Valley), three destination sections (Explore Hudson Valley) and a special gift guide to end the year (Holiday Gift Guide). Like the newspapers, these sections are created by Ulster Publishing’s dedicated local staff of editors, writers and photographers. There’s nothing else like them in the Hudson Valley.

About us

New Paltz Times is owned by Ulster Publishing, an independent, locally owned newspaper company. It began in 1972 with the Woodstock Times, and now, in addition to New Paltz Times, also publishes the Saugerties Times, Kingston Times and Almanac Weekly, an arts & entertainment guide that covers Ulster and Dutchess counties. In recent years we’ve added websites for these publications, plus special sites dedicated to tourism, health, business and dining. Check them out at hudsonvalleytimes.com.

Ulster Publishing has a mission: to reflect and enrich our communities. Our content is 100-percent local – locally written, photographed, edited, printed and distributed. We publicize local businesses and encourage our readers to shop local. We publicize local events because we want our communities to be vibrant places where people come together. We don’t just write about the controversy, but the good news too, because we love these communities and we want readers to know about the great people who live here. We don’t just write about our communities: we’re part of them.
We have offices in Kingston and New Paltz. Drop us a line at 845-334-8200, check out our website or contact [email protected] To advertise, call the same number or email [email protected]

Here’s a list of our newspapers with links to their sites:

  • Woodstock Times: Our first and probably best-known paper, providing an authentic and modern take on America’s most famous small town.
  • Saugerties Times: Published since 1995, this paper covers a town on the up-and-up. With a lively mix of young and old, natives and transplants, liberals and conservatives, it’s one of the most interesting places we cover.
  • New Paltz Times: A hugely popular newspaper covering one of the region’s coolest towns. Known far and wide for its world-class outdoor recreation and huge state college, it’s a community with a rich history, lively politics, bustling culture and breathtaking natural beauty.
  • Kingston Times: Our youngest paper, Kingston Times provides an alternative take on city politics, police, culture and community. Thoughtful, in-depth, and comprehensive, Kingston Times is a must-read for denizens of New York’s first capital.
  • Almanac Weekly: The region’s best guide to art, entertainment and adventure, Almanac is a must-read for tens of thousands of people across the Hudson Valley.

In addition to these sites for our weekly publications, we also manage the following web-only media:

  • Hudson Valley Business Review: The region’s only website devoted exclusively to business journalism, drawing on Ulster Publishing’s entire news organization to provide the economic perspective on regional news.
  • Explore Hudson Valley: What to do and where to go in the Hudson Valley, with appeal for tourists and natives alike.
  • Healthy Hudson Valley: A local guide to health services, good food and living well.
  • Dine Hudson Valley: The region’s best guide to eating local.
  • Home Hudson Valley: Our local guide to making the most of your Hudson Valley Home.
