Looking for a mix of big band jazz, summertime fun and an old-fashioned ice cream social? Well, Unison Arts Center has you covered. Unison is holding an Ice Cream Social on Saturday, Aug. 10 featuring the music of The Big Band Sound — a 20-piece orchestra that’s made a name for itself playing covers of great big band-era songs by Benny Goodman, Stan Kenton and Duke Eillington.
“And Adirondack Creamery has been gracious enough to donate ice cream for the event. So every person will be receiving a free scoop of ice cream for purchasing a ticket,” said Alyssa Tullin, with Unison.
While the concert starts at 6 p.m., people are encouraged to show up early when the grounds open at 5 p.m. to sit and enjoy a picnic dinner outside. “We’re hoping that the weather will hold out, and we don’t have to move inside,” Tullin said.
People can feel free to pack a picnic in a soft cooler for this event. Because it’ll be outside, people should dress appropriately for the predicted weather and bring bug spray, a picnic blanket and folding chairs.
Tickets are discounted for early birds who buy their tickets before the day of the performance. Early tickets for non-Unison members cost $20. Unison members will pay $15. People buying tickets the night of Aug. 10 can expect to pay $3 more: non-members pay $23 at the door, but members would pay $18. Students can get a discount if they show their student ID cards.
Unison sells the tickets both at their office and online at www.unisonarts.org.
